Styvechale Hall Demolished
STYVECHALE HALL ACCIDENT.
Several tons of bricks, plaster, beams, and other debris crashed through the floor at Stivichall Hall Coventry, on Saturday, during demolition operation operations, and caused injuries to five men.
The men were Percy Scott, of Red Lane, Coventry; Henry L Law, of Bell Green Road, Coventry; Archibald Collins of Elm Tree Avenue, Coventry; Douglas Heep of Coventry Road, Baginton; and John Fox are detained in Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital. Scott and Heep have concussion. Law has an injury to the back and Collins head lacerations and a fractured leg. Fox was sent home after treatment for lacerations and a fracture of the right foot.
The men were pulling down a wall when it collapsed suddenly and crashed through the floor on which they were standing. They were flung below. None were hit by the falling masonry and timber.
Stivichall Hall has been derelict for nearly 10 years and was the former home of Major Gregory Hood a descendant of Admiral Hood. The grounds have been sold for business purposes.
