MINUTES OF STYVECHALE GRANGE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
LOCATION – Grange Farm School
DATE – 7 November 2024
PRESENT – John Archer – Chairman, Councillor John Blundell, Mick Fitzpatrick – Treasurer, Sheila Weare – Minutes Secretary.
Plus 26 members of the Association.
WELCOME – John A welcomed members to the meeting and introduced the St. John’s Ambulance Team – Lauren, Erin, Owen and David, who were attending to demonstrate CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and to advise on the use of a defibrillator.
APOLOGIES – Judith and David Cule, Jayne Every, Yvonne and Wal Neal, Glynis Ozcan, Kirt Parshad, Anant Patel, Councillor Tim Sawdon.
ST JOHNS AMBULANCE – if an adult is unresponsive and not breathing normally you must telephone 999 and start CPR immediately – if you are on your own, shout for assistance. Lauren outlined the primary survey which should be carried out before starting CPR. 1. Check for Danger, 2. Check for a Response, 3. Open Airway, 4. Check Breathing, 5. Check Circulation (DRABC). The team demonstrated these five steps and then CPR and rescue breaths. A demonstration of how to use a defibrillator was also given by the team. Using a defibrillator significantly increases the chances of recovery. A list of defibrillator locations has been produced by The British Heart Foundation and this is called ‘The Circuit’. It is hoped any defibrillator not registered can be added to the list. Lauren was thanked for her very professional and informative presentation. Members were then able to try CPR on the manikins provided by St John’s. SGRA will send a donation to St. John’s Ambulance. Thanks to Grange Farm School for the use of their projector and screen.
MINUTES – The minutes of the meeting held on 5 September 2024, having been posted online and circulated, were accepted with the following amendment. StreetWatch – the team carried out one patrol in September 2024 with nothing to report. New members are needed to enable more patrols. Insurance conditions for those patrolling would apply and are provided by West Midlands Police.
MATTERS ARISING – Animal Pound – this remains in an appalling condition. In June 2021 a heritage statement was commissioned and this was completed in February 2022. A structural survey was then to be undertaken by F. Haywood Associates and as of August 2023 Haywoods are awaiting an email reply from the Council. John A is concerned there may be similar delays with the care of the meadows. Mantilla Drive Resurfacing – preparatory work is necessary because surface water is not getting into the sewers. John A has asked whether the half of Mantilla already resurfaced may be similarly affected.
IKEA – a full Council meeting was held on 15 October 2024 when John B had voiced concern at the amount of money already spent on this project together with the demise of the main contractor. ISG were the only company willing to take on the contract, but they do have a very poor business record.
LOCAL POLICE UPDATE – since our meeting John A has attended a police liaison meeting. The reported crime figures are for Wainbody Ward for the first half of October 2024. 70 crimes (122 for the same period in 2023). 3 burglaries in Finham., 7 vehicle crimes in the Finham area, 7 shoplifting offences and a mixture of harassment, blackmail, domestic and low-level crime around Warwick University.
The police team will relocate to Burnsall Road Business Park in early 2025. This facility will not be open to the public. The Fletchamstead Highway building will be sold. School Streets – Sgt. Betts has no further information on how effective this has been at Templars School or any of the other schools trialling the initiative. Cardinal Wiseman has a School Street Zone and congestion has been significantly less. Vehicles parked Mantilla Drive c/o Leamington Road are believed to be from Robbins and Day and are causing difficulties for buses turning into the estate. Sgt. Betts advises that photographs are taken, put on social media and also sent to Stellantis who own the garage. He hopes to have the opportunity to patrol the area and assess the situation.
